City’s
West Nusa Tenggara, divided becomes two Island, Sumbawa Island and lombok island, the capital of province was in Mataram. And Lombok itself has four regencies (West Lombok, East lombok, South lombok, Central part of lombok) West lombok has three main cities Ampenan, Mataram and Cakranegara.
Mataram is the main administrative center for Lombok and Sumbawa (West Nusa Tenggara Province) filled with numerous government offices, schools and colleges, banks, mosques, bookstores, the post office center, shopping centre, a museum ( historical and cultural artifacts of West Nusa Tenggara ).
Ampenan is used to be an old port during Dutch colonial several years ago. The biggest fisherman village living surrounding, where the style of old architecture is still easily seen around the town, This area serves a market at night filled with some warungs, local food, shops, traditional morning market, cidomos (local transportation).
Cakranegara or Cakra is the biggest shopping centre, some other Hindu’s Temple were here, since lombok was become colonial by Balinese kingdom and also home to Chinese and Balinese that make of the city’s population. A lot of Lombok’s weaving and basket making industries are here found as well. The next town east of Cakranegara is Sweta, a big daily covered market near the Bertais Bus Terminal with any kinds of daily needed on sale.
Temple’s
Mayura Park or Taman Mayura is what remains of the once existing Karang Asam kingdom of Bali whose King A.A. Ngurah built it in 1744. In the middle of a large pond is a structure called “ Balai Kambang “ which at the time functioned as a legal court of justice as well as a hall for important meetings. Curiously, its architecture shows both Hindu as well as Islamic influence, whereas around the place statues made of stone are found in the form of a Moslem hajji.

The Balinese temple is built on higher ground, behind the Moslem section in the compound. In the lower yard is a spring in which pilgrims in the temple yard stage a mock battle between Hindus and Moslems in which troth parties hurl rice cakes at each other.
Beaches
Senggigi Beach. Quite close to Selaparang Airport, A series of white sandy beaches in small palm-fringed bays, hugging the sides of steep hills sweeping down to the sea, make up Senggigi.The views up and down the coast and stretching out to sea as far as Bali are majestic. Swimming off the beach is safe and good waves for surfers peel to the left and right off the reef that just out from the main beach. The reef is also home to a variety of marine life and beautiful coral and is ideal for relaxed snorkeling.
Restaurants and small cafes line the colorful main beach road. Two pulsating disco pubs churn out music until the early hours, Hotels belonging to some of the major international and local chains have beachfront locations with all the fancy frills expected of luxury hotels. Batu Bolong Beach. This beach has a huge rock with a hole in it. A Hindu temple lies on top facing the Lombok Strait and across is the contour of ma jestic Mount Agung of Bali. Kuta Beach, Mawun Beach, Tanjung A’an Beach. A steady 1 hour 45 minutes drive from Mataram will take you to the south coast of Lombok where the village and resort area of Kuta is situated. One of Indonesia’s most stunning beaches with wide stretches of deserted sand beach, crystal-clear waters and picturesque out crops of rock. And with its superb surf breaks, Kuta is one of the most popular surf areas of Lombok.
Passing through several small Sasak villages on the way to Kuta, one gets the chance to see how traditional hand made Sasak pottery and handicraft is made and the opportunity to shop for a bargain or two.
Tanjung Ringgit ( Hidden Beauty ). Lombok has many natural beauty places, which have not been explored yet. One of those beauty places is Tanjung Ringgit coastal line that lay on eastern part of Lombok. Tanjung Ringgit is about 2 and half hours by car from Mataram, the capital city of West Nusa Tenggara or Senggigi area. The area was prepared as a transmigration land and conserved forest. Due its rocky soil, it is difficult to find a fresh water resource in this area so most of the local inhabitants should transport water from the nearest village or expecting rain water to fulfill their daily needs as well as to irrigate their farm land. In spite of this condition, Tanjung Ringgit has plenty of hidden nature such as breath taking white rock cliff and many other pristine white sand beaches.
Gili’s
Gili Islands ( Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, Gili Air ). The Gili Islands are comprised of three small islands just of the northwestern coast of mainland Lombok. Gili Meno is the middle island and by far the quietest with fewer hotels; as such it is the ideal place to visit when wishing to get away from the crowd.
Gili Trawangan is the furthest of the three islands and the journey from the departure point in the village of Bangsal usually takes a little more than an hour by outrigger boat. It is also the most popular island amongst the Gilis. Over the years it has become the most developed and most lively of the three. Sukarara (Hand Weaving Village). From Senggigi and the Mataram area it is only a small drive to reach the centre of this small Village. Where Sukarara can be found. These thatched buildings are usually lined up in and around the markets which are the pulse and heart of the village. Every area in Indonesia has its own styles of Batik cloth and in Lombok there are some of the most popular and aesthetically pleasing traditional designs and in Sukarara and most of Lombok the quality of production is excellent. Designs here make excellent use of earthy colors couples with traditional eastern patterns that are indigenous to Lombok as well as the famous and en-capturing design of the Lombok man and woman which has become one of the most memorable symbol of the island.
Most of the women in the village of Sukarara work in the sewing factories and You can witness the production of these amazing materials from the thread to the market stalls where you can take part in the bartering and haggling which is all part of the culture of Lombok and indeed the whole of Indonesia. Whether you are looking for clothing, materials to take home gifts or just some keepsakes.
Sukarara is the place to by cloth as well as many other interesting and very different items that make great gifts and scream Lombok culture. This is a village of weavers south of Cakranegara. Lombok is known for its brightly Patterned songket cloth. People have been making it on their handlooms for many generations.
Sade, Sengkol, Pujut and Rambitan ( Traditional House ). Time seems to have frozen in these three villages in southern Lombok on the road from the capital to Kuta Beach. All the houses and barns are built in the age- old traditional style where life itself appears to be as it always has been.

Banyumulek ( Pottery Village ). The village of Banyumulek is located about 6 miles south of Mataram, Banyumulek known well throughout the international pottery art. Banyumulek’s unique pottery traditions have been passed down from mother to daughter since the early 16th century. Women learn how to shape and mould the pots from a very early age, using primitive tools and clay collected from the surrounding countryside. They don’t have the benefit of potters’ wheels and all the pots, vases, plates and jugs are hand thrown, sometimes using a round stone and wooden paddle. The men of the village are responsible for firing the pots and they are decorated by local children.
There are several villages in Lombok dedicated to pottery. Banyumulek is the easiest to reach; it is half way between Lembar harbor and the capital Mataram. All of The art shop which is located just off the main road have the most varied collection and are prepared to send your purchases abroad for you. They also give a demonstration how the pottery is made. But it is worthwhile to go another km to Banyumulek village. Here every house produces and sells pottery, and you may see them at work too. Walking along the street there are several shops to find your bargain for vases, plates, candlesticks, small souvenirs, and so on.
Penakak, Masbagik ( Pottery village ). Masbagik district (located about 7km from Selong City) known well as pottery center in West Nusa Tenggara, even to foreign countries. This pottery made from clay and has penetrated export markets such as Australia, America and Europe, while the domestic market for pottery Penakak has penetrated to Bali, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, Semarang, Makassar and Medan. Pottery industry is in compliance with international quality standards and design tailored to the needs of the market. Types of pottery produced by like platter, kaling, ashtrays, flower vases, bowls, barrels, home ornaments and so forth. Many tourists who visit Penakak besides aiming to buy pottery also to see the process of making pottery from clay selection process until the combustion process.
Loyok ( Weaving Bamboo Crafts Village ) located in the district of Sikur, about 14km from the town of Selong and can be reached by public transportation.
